Solution settings
Using the Solution Settings form (Home > Settings > Solution Settings), you can control file clean-up and auto-save options.
Some settings on the form are only for solutions saved to JewelFile (*.jewel) and do not apply to DMS Solutions. This is indicated at the start of each setting description below.
The Save function does not automatically overwrite the last saved version of the solution. By default, a number of former versions of the solution (called baselines) are preserved within the JewelSuite 2026.1 Subsurface Modeling file. This provides you with an easy way to go back to a former version, and so, if you want to keep intermediate versions of your work, it is not necessary to save your solution with different names. Provided you know the date/time of the save you want to go back to, you can open it from the file itself.
How to open a former version of a solution
At the application's start page or via home > Solution > Open within the application, select one of the following options:
- Open from JewelFile From the 'Open JewelSuite Solution' dialog, browse to the solution location and double click the solution while holding Shift. This action opens the baseline list dialog. Select the baseline of interest and click Load.
- Open from DMS (If you are not connected to DMS yet, connect with the dialog that automatically pops up.) From the 'Open from DMS' form, select the solution to open, hold the Shift button while clicking Open on the form. Select the baseline from the baseline dialog and click OK.
(for *.jewel and DMS Solutions)
Important
The application needs to be started with a start-up parameter in order to access this functionality. Contact your System Administrator in this case. As this option can potentially lead to data loss, it should only be used when you are aware of the implications.
A solution may have references to add-ins that are not available, which will result in 'Binder' warnings when opening the file. The solution can, however, be cleaned up by removing these references.
(for *.jewel only) When many previous versions (baselines) of the solution have been kept, you may want to clean up the list to decrease the file size. On the form that appears, select the versions/baselines you want to delete from the list that appears. At the base of the form the size of the data that will be removed is shown. Click Clean up to actually remove the selected versions.
(for *.jewel only) Enables you to restrict the number of versions/baselines saved in the solution to a fixed number. The default number is 3. You can change this number (range 1 – 1000) but it is strongly recommended not to reduce it. If, for some reason, your solution gets corrupted you will have at least two former versions to get back to. Be aware that automatic clean up is only activated for solutions > 50 MB, and only for solution in the list that contain more than 50% obsolete data. A message appears to inform you when this occurs.
(for *.jewel and DMS Solutions) Check the box and you can set a time span to safeguard your work at regular intervals. For the auto-save setting to take effect, you must reload the solution or open another solution. In case of a sudden failure, you will be able to retrieve the last auto-saved version. Auto-saved versions are also added to the baseline list.
Click Apply to save the settings and keep the form open, or click OK to save the settings and close the form.
